Atlantic City Electric’s New Electrification ProgramCould Provide Homeowners with Up to $16,750 inRebates on HVAC Upgrades
If you’ve been considering replacing an aging gas, oil, or propane heating system, there has never been a better time to make the switch to electric in southern New Jersey.
Atlantic City Electric has launched its new Residential Electrification (Building Decarbonization) Program, offering substantial rebates and financing options to help homeowners upgrade to high-efficiency electric heat pump systems. For qualifying homeowners, incentives can cover 50% to 60% of total project costs, making whole- home electrification more affordable than ever.
What Is the Residential Electrification Program?
The program is designed to help homeowners transition away from fossil fuel heating
systems and adopt cleaner, more energy-efficient electric technologies. By replacing traditional heating and cooling equipment with modern heat pumps, homeowners can reduce energy consumption, lower utility costs, and improve indoor comfort year-round.
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible, homeowners must:
- Be active Atlantic City Electric residential customers
- Own a single-family home
- Have the work completed by an approved Participating Contractor (Trade Ally)
Why Homeowners Are Making the Switch
Today’s heat pump systems are dramatically more efficient than older heating technologies. In fact, many heat pumps can operate at up to three times the efficiency of conventional heating systems.
Additional benefits include:
- Lower monthly energy costs
- Improved indoor air quality by eliminating combustion inside the home
- Quiet operation
- Both heating and cooling from a single system
- Reduced carbon emissions
- Access to additional rebates for related upgrades such as heat pump water heaters, electrical panel upgrades, and induction cooking appliances
The Biggest Savings Come with Full Electrification
Homeowners who completely replace their fossil fuel heating systems with a cold- climate air-source heat pump (ccASHP) can qualify for the highest rebate levels available.
Full Displacement Incentives
Moderate-income customers may qualify for:
- Up to $10,000 for the primary heat pump system or 50% of project costs
- Up to $2,000 for ductwork modifications or re-ducting
- Up to $2,000 for decommissioning the existing fossil fuel equipment
- $2,000 for each additional qualifying heat pump unit
- $750 for a heat pump water heater
For homeowners pursuing a comprehensive electrification project, total incentives can realistically range from $14,000 to $16,750.
What If You Want to Keep Your Existing Furnace?
The program also supports hybrid systems that combine a new heat pump with an existing gas furnace.
While this option still provides meaningful savings, incentives are significantly lower:
- Main system rebates are up to $5,000 or 50% of project costs
- Re-ducting bonuses are not available
- Decommissioning bonuses are not available
For homeowners seeking the greatest return on investment, full electrification remains the most financially rewarding option.
0% Interest Financing Available
To make these upgrades even more accessible, qualified homeowners can take advantage of 0% interest financing through NEIF for up to $25,000 toward eligible HVAC and heat pump improvements.
This financing option allows homeowners to spread project costs over time while immediately benefiting from improved comfort and energy savings.
A Rare Opportunity for Homeowners
Programs offering incentives of this size don’t come along often. With rebates potentially exceeding $16,000 and interest-free financing available, many homeowners can significantly reduce the upfront cost of upgrading their home’s heating and cooling system.
Whether you’re replacing an aging furnace, looking to lower utility bills, or interested in creating a more energy-efficient home, Atlantic City Electric’s new Residential Electrification Program presents an exceptional opportunity.
