HVAC Costs: Furnace and Central AC In Ocean City, NJ

HVAC Costs: Furnace and Central AC In Ocean City, NJ.

If you are thinking about replacing your HVAC system, the first thing you think about is the cost. It makes sense! Replacing a heating or cooling system is expensive, and it is a decision that will impact your home comfort and energy bills for 10 to 20+ years. HVAC costs vary based on efficiency, brand, and type of system.

The cost of a furnace, air conditioning condenser and coil are things to consider when making the switch to a new or replacement HVAC system.

In this article, our Sales Manager Joe P., helped walk us through the cost of different types of Furnace and Central A/C systems based on how efficient they are, and what type of home you are installing them in.

Joe has worked for Broadley’s for over ten years, and his goal isn’t just to “make the sale” but to help our customers make the RIGHT choice for their home or business, and find financial savings in the process.

Furnace & Central A/C Costs In South Jersey

One of the main types of full system replacements we see in our area is what we call a “Furnace, Condenser and Coil,” also known as a Heating and Air Conditioning system.

Broadley’s installs these types of full HVAC systems daily, with a varying range of costs depending on the size of the home. The efficiency and size of the furnace and air conditioning condenser will impact on the cost, as well as the potential energy savings.

Every furnace has an efficiency rating called an “AFUE,” which stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. This efficiency rating is a guide for you to know how much it will cost for you to heat your home. When you increase the AFUE rating, the furnace becomes more efficient and overtime the savings will really ad up. In fact, the cost to replace an old, inefficient furnace is returned in lower utility bills.

Here are a few general cost estimates based on our installs over the last year in different sizes homes on and off the island in Cape and Atlantic Counties with starting prices:

  • Average South Jersey 2–3-bedroom home: Full HVAC system with 80% furnace costs around $10,450
  • Average Island 4–5-bedroom home: Full HVAC system with 80% furnace costs around $11,350
  • Average South Jersey 2–3-bedroom home: Full HVAC system with 96% furnace costs around $11,500
  • Average Island 4–5-bedroom home: Full HVAC system with 96% furnace costs around $12,250

You can see, the difference between the costs is not all that great, roughly $1,000 when going from an 80% furnace to a more efficient 96% furnace. You may think to yourself, it’s OK to take the cheaper option, but over the lifespan of your system, the more efficient option could add up and put money back into your pocket through energy savings.

The Central Air Conditioner you choose will also have a large impact on your long-term financial savings, especially since electricity costs more than gas dollars and cents wise. Like a furnace, you have different options, based on efficiency and size, that make the costs of an A/C system vary in our area.

As a homeowner, you will want to look to the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of central air conditioners when shopping for a new HVAC system.

So what’s a good SEER rating to look for? Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER stands for a measure that determines energy efficiency and how efficiently an air conditioner converts electricity into cooling power over a cooling season. Higher SEER ratings mean the air conditioning unit is among the options for efficient systems. As ratings increase to a higher SEER, the more efficient the unit is in terms of how much energy it takes to cool your home to a preferred constant indoor temperature.
