How Has Your Heating System Been Working?

So the first thing you should consider when it comes to replacing your heating system is how it’s been working. If the system has been keeping your home comfortable, and your energy bills are under control, you are probably fine! All you need is to schedule regular maintenance for your heating system.

If you have been having issues with your heating system, you should consider replacing it sooner rather than later. Here are a few of the signs that you could use a new heating system:

Cold Spots In Your Home

This is the most obvious sign your heating system should be replaced. If you have cold spots in your home that never seem to stay comfortable, it could be that your heating system isn’t getting the job done. This could also be a problem with your ductwork, your furnace, or simply a lack of maintenance.

We recommend that you call in a professional to take a look. They will be able to tell you if your system needs a repair, service, or if it’s time to replace it.

Unusually High Energy Bills

Unusually high energy bills can be a sign that your system is working too hard to keep your space warm. If your energy bills are noticeably higher than last year, there could be an issue with your heating system.

As years go by, most machines tend to deteriorate in ways. This could be a car, a bike, and yes, an HVAC system as well. If the system ages and loses energy efficiency, it’s going to start consuming more energy in order to provide heat.

Take a look at your energy bill. Compare it to the previous year, and see if they give you a comparison to your neighbors. This is usually a good indication of your current energy use, and lets you know how well your heating system is performing.

Breakdowns And Repairs Needed

If your heating system has broken down in the past, and you are always waiting with baited breath for the next issue, it’s probably time to replace it. Living repair to repair and breakdown to breakdown is no fun, and doesn’t give you much peace of mind.

Outside of simply not having to worry about a repair, you also don’t want to worry about spending too much money on a temporary fix. If your system is older, the chances are, you will save more money by replacing it rather than repairing it.

Older systems tend to use more energy than newer ones, so not only will you be saving by eliminating repairs being needed, but you will also likely see lower energy bills. Instead of pouring money into a failing system, invest in a new one!

Do You Have To Replace Your Air Conditioning System Next Year?

If you know it’s time to replace your air conditioning system next summer, it actually may be a good time to look into replacing your whole HVAC system before 2025. In the new year, there are refrigerant changes coming to HVAC systems. This is going to make a lot of our older models antiquated. They will still be usable, but the refrigerant to recharge them will either be unavailable, or very expensive.

We also anticipate that prices for HVAC equipment will rise in the new year, up to 30% in some cases. When you consider how much some of these systems are, that’s a difference of hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Instead of waiting until the spring or summer to replace your AC, you may want to consider a system like a heat pump, or ductless mini split, that will be able to cool in the summer, and also heat in the winter. There are also furnace/AC combos that will help you save when installing a new HVAC system.

Replacing your whole HVAC system now will likely save you money, and have you set up all year round, for the next decade plus.
